Our Story
It all began in 2020 during quarantine. At the time, I was working at my corporate 8-5 desk job from home but found myself constantly staring out the window and dreaming of ways to spend more time outside and to do something that felt more meaningful with my life.
When the contract for my job was up in early 2021, I had no idea what to do next but knew that I needed a change. So I searched craigslist (yes, Craigslist which now somehow feels archaic) for local jobs where I could be outside and learn a life skill.
I stumbled upon a field crew position opening at a local organic veggie CSA farm (Emerald Meadows Family Farm) and began working there part time while I figured out what I “really wanted to do with my life.”
Little did I know that I would fall in love with farming and after working at that farm for one whole season, I decided to pursue vegetable farming as a career.
In 2022, I began the Organic Vegetable Farm Manager Apprenticeship through Fairshare CSA Coalition and the state of Wisconsin. The apprenticeship is a two year program where the apprentices team up with a local farmer whose job is to teach them everything they know about organic vegetable farming while the apprentice works on their farm. The apprentices also take 3 farm management and finance courses through Northeast Technical College.
I very intentionally chose Bethanee Wright of Winterfell Acres as my farm mentor. I was looking for a farm that felt like the type of farm I wanted to build myself. I saw her beautiful woman-led, one-acre, human-scale farm as the perfect place to learn. And I knew I wanted to learn from Beth as I watched her farm while raising a family and as I watched her intentionally steward her Land, both values I hold dearly.
I also completed a nine-month long herbal medicine apprenticeship in 2022 with local Herbalist, Linda Conroy, where I learned about growing, foraging and harvesting medicinal herbs. In addition, I learned how to process herbs and turn them into tinctures, syrups, infused oils and vinegars and more.
In 2024 after graduating from the apprenticeship program, I continued to work at Winterfell Acres but this time as Manager rather than apprentice. And in 2025, I rented land from Winterfell Acres and officially started Sun and Moon Farm!
